LKA is an award-winning, IMSLEC recognized school

2021 STOP AWARD Finalist

LKA was at the forefront of a safe school re-opening in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic during the 2020-2021 school year.

By July of 2020, we were the first school to reopen in the state, serving all students who desired in person learning from July of 2020 through June of 2021.

Due to our weekly COVID testing, LKA was able to remain open for the entirety of the year, and did not have to close the school at all during the year due to COVID. As a result of these efforts, 80% of the total student body maintained or increased their reading fluency.

Dorran

Stevens

4th grade

This is Dorran’s 4th year at LKA. He struggled with reading in the past but has improved tremendously since attending LKA. Dorran’s favorite subject is math, and his favorite teachers are Mrs. Harvard and Mrs. Billings. He loves the environment, teachers, and staff at LKA. I have noticed an improvement in communication, reading, and comprehension skills and his teachers have noticed an increased desire for learning!

Peyton

Powell

8th grade

I am in my 7th year at LKA and will be graduating LKA and headed to high school next year. I would describe myself as antisocial at my old school and LKA has really helped me to be more confident. I didn’t put myself out there for fear of getting answers wrong at my previous school. At LKA, my teachers give me more time and more 1 on 1 attention, which has helped me gain confidence in my work. My favorite subjects are Literature and Composition and I want to be a journalist when I grow up.

"LKA has helped me to grow more as a person and to be more outspoken and more confident!"

- Peyton, 8th grade

Hunter

Layton

7th grade

This is Hunter’s 5th year at LKA. When Hunter was young, he had very bad grades and hated going to school. Now when he goes to school, he is excited and ready to learn. He loves all his teachers from 3rd grade to now but says his favorite teacher from this year is Mr. Bradford. Hunter says that Mr. Bradford is fun and has a very organized way of teaching, which is the way he prefers to learn. Hunter’s favorite thing about attending LKA is how every teacher is so kind and understanding. Hunter received a 5 (Mastery of Skill) in all of his classes this year!

- Hunter's Mom

"When I am at school I am happy. I am glad I get to have an amazing gift like LKA."

- Hunter, 7th grade

Keilyn

Dunn

4th grade

Keilyn has attended LKA for 4 years. Before attending LKA, she struggled with school in a few areas, of course in reading and English; however, more than that, she struggled with self-confidence. She did not believe in herself or that she was capable of being a strong student. Since attending LKA, she has truly grown into the BEST version of herself. She has self-confidence and LOVES school now! Keilyn loves all of her classes at LKA but especially loves reading and exploring new literature. She is reading BOOKS which sure makes this Mama's heart happy!

- Keilyn's Mom

"The teachers are really nice and help me. They don't give up on me."

- Keilyn, 4th grade

Abigail

Dufrene

1st grade

Abigail is in 1st grade and has been at LKA since November 2020. Before enrolling at LKA, she was unable to read basic sight words without lots of parental assistance and would often forget that same sight word before we even finished the section. Now, she is able to whiz through her sight words! I can ask her to read her sight words from the bottom of the list to the top, or pick out random words from the list and she literally aces them! Ms. Brown, one of her teachers, says that Abigail is a model student who is always on task, trying her best and leading in the classroom. Abigail said that one of her favorite things about LKA was PE because of "Coach". In only about 4 months, Abigail has progressed in SO many areas on SO many levels! If I had not witnessed this myself on a first hand basis, I honestly do not know that I could have believed this was all possible! - Abigail's Mom

"Science is helping us to read without even realizing it! I mean, even on my first try I ace my tests because Ms. Brown teaches us to focus, and if you just listen, you will learn, and it is just like a miracle!"

- Abigail, 1st grade

Alex

Causey

3rd grade

Alex has attended LKA for 2 years. Before coming to LKA, he struggled with recognizing the letters of the alphabet and with reading. He had to repeat first grade at his previous school and was still struggling, which is when we decided to enroll Alex at LKA. From the very first day of school, Alex has never complained about wanting to go to school, even with COVID precautions and having to do virtual learning at times, he would still rather be at school in the classroom because he enjoys attending LKA so much. Alex loves math and his favorite teacher is Ms. Cosper. Since being at LKA, his level of confidence when reading has increased to the point that he will try to read things on his own before asking for help. He has become more confident in reading and enjoys learning! His teachers say that Alex has such a big heart for those around him and is always willing to help his peers and his teachers. - Alex's Mom

“I love LKA because I can read better. LKA is a fun place!”

- Alex, 3rd grade

Trevor

Rogers

"If your child is struggling with reading like my our son was, choose this school and be ready to work and trust the processes. I can attest too this because our son started off below reading level (3rd Grade) and when he completed 8th grade he was slightly above 8th grade reading level. Secondly, LKA set out to give our son the reading and test taking skills that worked best for him along with dedicated staff that ensured the student where their MAIN priority and that with inside was a some that you can not put a price on in my opinion."

- A. Franklin-Rogers

"LKA gave our son the confidence, a better self-esteem, and the KEYS to academic success moving forward."

- Aki, Trevor's Mom
